Pea shingle is made from high quality limestone gravel. It tends to come in 6mm, 10mm, 20mm and 40mm sizes.
Pea shingle is a ‘graded gravel’ and is produced by washing ballast. Pea shingle comes in several sizes and, so, is suitable for a number of purposes. Typically used decoratively for such things as flowerbeds or driveways, pea shingle also has practical applications – including being used as pipe bedding for drainage.
When used in flowerbeds or pot plants, pea shingle acts as mulch, keeping the plants insulated during winter and preventing evaporation of water in summer. It also helps to stop weeds growing.
While 6mm pea shingle can be used for large drainage projects, 10mm and 20mm shingles can also be used for drainage solutions.
Despite similar names and qualities, pea shingle and pea gravel have minor differences – so they’re separate products. We can supply either – or both – pea shingle and pea gravel.
